Discovering mountains of vintage vulcanite strands 15 years ago, my heart raced, and i was dazzled by the incredible colors and possibility these simple colorful strands presented me. "Jigida", which is what waist beads are called in parts of Nigeria, where they are said to have originated with the Yoruba tribe.
These have remained a staple in my studio, and have continued to inspire me. The variety of color combinations makes each piece in this collection unique.
Because the vintage strands, of which these are largely comprised are made from vulcanite, the same type of vinyl as records, the name honors both their place of origin and the material used.
